LIRA sponsors the Summer Institute for teachers. This one was held at the Mackenzie High School. The workshop began at 9:00 A.M. and ended at 12:00 P.M. each day with lunch. The workshop began on Monday July 11 and ended Friday July 15. The focus of the workshop was on Mathematics Problem Solving. A senior student from Worcester State University team-taught the workshop with Dr. Raynold M. Lewis. Seventeen teachers attended consistently and completed a final assessment. They were awarded a certificate of completion from the university.
Every summer since 2010 LIRA has been involved in professional development for elementary teachers in Linden, Guyana. Dr. Ingrid Enniss from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama conducted Language Arts and Literacy workshops, and Dr. Raynold Lewis from Worcester State University provided skills and concepts in mathematics content and mathematics pedagogy. Since the inception of this program over 200 teachers have received training.
LIRA believes in investing in a Christian education for our students. This is why we have such a focus on giving teacher's extra resources and the additional training they need to do their job effectively, so that we may prepare our young people for tomorrow.
We are a non-profit organization that is affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Linden area. We hope you will consider contributing today.
